The year 2012 has arrived. Depending on your beliefs, background, and/or perspective, it could be the last year for everyone. Frankly, I believe there was a much better chance of that theology taking place during the Cold War of the 1980's with the pushing of a few buttons from either side of the world. But, I digress.
A new year can be your excuse or motivation for a new beginning. Maybe it's time to get off the couch. Maybe this year, and soon, you'll get your spouse and kids taken care of and complete your living-will. Perhaps this is the year you make it to the top and reach the pinnacle of all your goals. Maybe, just maybe, you'll be striving for what I found last year - simplification.
A few years ago, I started thinking about how good kids really have it. I'm talking about the young ones of kindergarden thru third grade. I remember, even though we had school and chores, we had lots to look forward to everyday. I wanted life to be simple again like it was during that time when I was a kid. So, I changed how I looked at my everyday life.
Do you remember what you used to do after school as a kid? We played. Some of us in after school programs, some of us at home, some with friends, some by ourselves, but we had the freedom of playtime. So, I turned work into school. I work hard during the day to rush home to the simplification of playtime. Sometimes that playtime is with my kids, sometimes with my wife (sorry, no specifics here), sometimes it's time spent by myself working on home projects or playing golf. Be careful about getting caught up in running your kids all over the place. They can play at home regardless of what they think. Be outside at least once a day - its good for the soul and probably means your doing something worthwhile. So this year, simplify and start over. Relax and enjoy life. Work hard and be proud of what you are doing. Then, start a new beginning, start back over, and find that thing that really makes your clock TICK. And play - again.
